Giveaway: Eco Store USA for eco friendly cleaners, bath & body and baby care products

It is getting easier and easier to make green, eco-friendly choices in our lives. One of the biggest trends I’ve noticed has been in the world of cleaning products and bath & body care. Everyone is jumping on board. One example of a great eco-friendly company is Eco Store USA which sells everything from soaps, shampoos, dishwasher detergent (or plain dish soap!), laundry detergent, baby bath products and even pet shampoos! Let every member of your family, pets included, and your home benefit from a good green cleaning.

I’ve recently had the pleasure of trying out Eco Store USA‘s vanilla shampoo and conditioner as well as their dishwasher powder and dish soap. Each of these products works well, smells good and integrates themselves seamlessly into our cleaning routines. The best thing about them, though, is what’s not in them – nasty chemicals. Eco Store USA founders Melanie and Malcolm Rands have worked hard to create household cleaning products using plant-based ingredients that would biodegrade safely and quickly, eliminating the need to use toxic chemicals. What started as a product for true ‘Greenies’ and organic gardeners quickly caught on with the rest of the world.

Eco Store USA offers more than 100 products, each one meeting stringent environmental and sustainability standards. And by using super-concentrated formulas, they’ve made their products budget-friendly and long lasting. A little goes a long way.

Purex Natural Elements – Review and Giveaway

When I do laundry I try to use specific brands due to my husbands allergy to certain ingredients in laundry detergent products. My favorite brand to use is Purex. He has never had an allergic reaction to this brand. Well, Purex has gotten better and “greener”! They recently released their new Natural Elements line.

The Natural Elements line from Purex comes in either Laundry Detergent or Fabric Softener. They come in a variety of fragrances. The laundry detergent comes in: Linen & Lilies, Cherry Blossoms & Vanilla, Apple & Melon and Lilac & White Lavender HE. The fabric softener comes in: Linen & Lilies and Apple and Melon.   The fragrance I tried was the Linen and Lilies, it was clean smelling and not overpowering.

Some more information from the Purex Saves Green Website:

purex-naturalThe plant-based surfactants are sourced from nature’s renewable resources, including natural fragrance extracts and naturally softened water. Both the detergent and liquid fabric softener have biodegradable, concentrated formulas that requires 50 percent less liquid per dose and a recyclable bottle, and it is also hypoallergenic and dye-free.

This is the type of product I want to use when I’m trying to help in creating a better world for my children to grow up in. I brought the product to my mother in laws house and she informed me that she already uses it! No wonder her clothes smell so good. She says the price is right too, she purchases this product from Walmart and a lower if not the same price as most of the other brands out there.

We are giving away Purex Natural Elements Laundry Detergent and Fabric Softener in Linen and Lilacs fragrance to one lucky winner. Here’s how to enter:

  1. Visit Purex Saves Green and create a tote with you own Eco-Friendly Slogan – You could win a car by doing this! Or tell us what your favorite fragrance would be for Purex Natural Elements.

SideKick is a Black Belt

The T-Mobile SideKick is the type of phone that makes people stop in their tracks, all you have to do is flip the phone open with a flick of your finger and everyone wants to try. The SideKick I was able to try came to me with the best look of all. It was pink! There are replaceable covers that can be placed on the back of the phone to help show your personality. The phone automatically comes with Black and Green covers, though more can be ordered through SideKick Shells website.

There are so many things I enjoyed about the SideKick. I liked the easy navigation through the phone. I very much liked that, without reading the manual, I was able to figure it all out within 5 minutes. Within those few minutes time I could call, text, take videos and pictures, send/receive email, play a game(!), and even chat on AIM. All of these are built in features with the SideKick. It was like the phone was made for my tastes.

 t-mobile

Though the buttons are small it’s relatively easy to use them for texting purposes. I did get slightly annoyed over the way the texting buttons (see the light grey buttons in the above picture) are used to dial a phone number. You can use the buttons on the top of the flipped open phone, or you can use the letters as numbers. This was difficult for me because you actually need to focus when dialing. I am used to picking up my current phone and dialing easily, without even having to look. It would take me a long time to get used to this dialing pattern.

A few other, minor, issues I had with this phone is that I kept trying to flip open the screen on the wrong side. This is a quick learn, I’m sure. I just haven’t had enough time to get used to which side to grab. Also, whenever I dropped the phone in my purse and went to take it out by grabbing the side 2 out of 3 times I would press a side button.

Another fantastic feature is the video and music playback. Using a MicroSD card (we love Sandisk) you can add in any music and video you would like in an mp3 player. There is even a headphone jack to plug into the phone for music listening purposes.

The SideKick is a great phone for any technologically savvy person (especially teens) who want to have a cool phone to show off to their friends and a great way to communicate.

Right now the SideKick is only $99  (after $50 mail in rebate) with a two year service agreement and data plan. Not bad, right?

Vicks Review: ComfortFlex Digital Thermometer

The Flu is an evil illness – and something I just had to experience for the first time. My seven year old was only 4 days away from her birthday when she came down with the Flu. Every symptom she had pointed towards it. I contacted the doctor and explained what I was doing to help – using tylenol to keep down the fever and giving her things like tums and peptobismol off and on to help with her stomach. The doctor said that’s all that could be done. The Flu just needs to run it’s course.

Of course once the fever came I could not find our thermometer, which is a common happening in my household. Whenever a fever comes that is the first thing to disappear. I rushed off to Walmart to purchase some extra meds and a new thermometer. While standing in the aisle and determining how much money we had (always important) I found the low scale thermometers and the high scale ones. Then I saw the Vicks ComfortFlex Digital Thermometer V965/V966F.

VICKS COMFORTFLEX THERMOMETER WITH IN-SIGHT *8 SECONDS V965F

The packaging boasts:
V965F/V966F Vicks ComfortFlex Digital Thermometer with Fever InSight Feature
  • Faster readings; in as fast as eight seconds
  • ComfortFlex tip makes temperature taking more comfortable.
  • Professional accuracy
  • Fever InSight large backlit display changes color to indicate temperature level.
  • Oral, rectal, or underarm use
  • Memory feature recalls and displays last temperature taken.
  • Waterproof for easy, more thorough cleaning
  • Automatic shutoff to help extend battery life
  • Probe covers and storage case included
  • Lifetime warranty under normal use and battery replacement

Sounds good to me! And I love the Vicks brand. The smell of Vicks vapor rub is one of those nostalgic smells to me from my childhood. I like to buy brands I trust so I purchased this thermometer. It was approx. $9.96 at Walmart. The price may vary per Walmart or elsewhere.

I tried it first under my daughters arm – which I am aware after 7 years of being a parent that you need to add on about 1 degree to underarm readings. It read 101.3 and turned a bright yellow that you can see in the light or dark. Once my daughter realized that it changes color per the high-low of the fever she got real excited and wanted to do it in her mouth. The packaging included the plastic covers for taking oral temps so we put one on and checked in her mouth.

For the whole course of the Flu she kept asking me to take her temperature. What’s fun is the way that it flashes Green, Yellow, Red when turning on. Then it shows you the color and last temp that was taken before being turned off.

The verdict

Vicks is always a brand I can stand behind. The thermometer has fun features like color changing, but it’s also a fast and accurate read. It lets the child run the show by telling you if their temp is green, yellow, or red.  I will be keeping this thermometer for a long time, until I lose it at least!
